Lepakshi 2

Hi....

After a long description from prasad about reaching the place let me describe the main attraction there the lepakshi veerabhadra temple....

He explained about the prakaras, now i will explain the story and the inner sculptural beauty of the temple......

the temple was constructed by virupanna the then minister who served the vijayanagara empire...the temple was built for veerabhadra and godess durga(one form of lord shiva) the diety of the vijayanagara kings. The main architects of the temple were humpanna and jakkanna..

We can see the godess durga instead of being proper place will be present in a pillar of the temple..as said by the priest there when the temple was under construction goddess durga came in to the dreams of the sculptor and said that she is present in the pillar..and asked him to pray her from there,so we could find the goddess in a pillar unlike in all other temples.

We took a guide there who showed us and narrated all the stories there.I strongly recommend a guide to know the real beauty of the temple and the then stories there.it will cost you around 30 bucks but it is really worthy. As we have less crowded here the guide ill take extra care to tell you all the things..

There are total 5 lingas in the temple. The first linga will be opposite to lord vishnu by maharshi agathsya meaning that there is no difference between siva and vishnu.(the only temple which has both siva and vishnu int he opposite directions..as said by the guide there...but i remember one more place called rali in west godavari district which has siva and vishnu(in mohini rupam) opposite to each other) the other linga is called ramalinga by rama in rememberance of jhatayuvu (the name of the city lepakshi came from him le-pakshi(bird) ) who was killed by ravana in the process of saving seethafrom him.it is also said that seetha has left her foot print there (we can see it even now where water ill be continuously oozing out) to make a mark for rama. the next linga is hanumath linga by hanuman.the fourth linga is called naga linga. this linga has a story...

There is a place for cooking in the temple where the mothe of jakkanna and humpanna prepares food for these people one day it has become late to cook food.these people thought insted of siting idle they can do some work started making this linga..and made a beautiful siva linga in the shade of serpant with seven hoods.when the mother saw it with astonishment(due to the bad effect of her eye sight on the linga it got a crack in one edge).this linga is exactly opposite to the big nandi(bull) which is around half KM from here...we can also see this linga from that nandi.

Coming to the mandapas of the temple we have a natya mandapa in which rambha will be dancing accompanied by brahma,tumbura,narada...etc. and it also dipicts the stories so siva and parvathi.and one more intresting thing is a pillar present there will not have a support at the bottom hanging insted of supporting on the ground.Once a british engineer came here to know how such heavy pillar is hanging with out support from the bottom when he tried to move the temple he found that the mandapa has moved a bit and the pillers one one side came coser...and by this he understood taht the whole natya mandapa is in support on this pilalr.but it is sad to know taht during this course the piller came down and one part of the piller slightly touches the ground now....This natya mandapa also have the painting (on the roof)of the then stores of siva and parvathi. The main temple has a painting of veerabhadhra which is 24 feet long on the roof...the main mandapa also has sculptures of padminijathi stri and vasthu purusha(showing haw a perfect male and female should be according to the build of the body).

Lepakshi

Lepakshi is about 18 kms away from Hindupur, Ananthpur district. We took APSRTC Express bus from Majestic at arnd 7 am on 24Jan, Saturday. Ticket costed only Rs.58/- per head. I remember that bus goes to Rayadurgam. The journey was pleasant with nice landscapes arnd. In the middle of journey, we had a break to have breakfast.

We reached Hindupur at arnd 10 am. Old Bus Stand. From there we took a private bus. After a roller coaster ride of 30 mins, we reached Lepakshi. (Ticket Rs.6/- per head) We first went to view the Mahanandi. My first impression was.. Is it really Lepakshi Nandi..? No tourists arnd, some Muslim women were passing time in the garden. I was expecting lot of rush. Lepakshi was a simple village. Lepakshi garden stands beside AP TOurism Building which is alredy in ruins.

Lepakshi Mahanandi is a magnificient piece of art made from a single stone (monolithic). Its considered to be the biggest Nandi statue in India. Brahadeshwara temple Tanjavur, Chamundi HIlls Mysore, Bull temple Bangalore come next to the Lepakshi Nandi in terms of size. Here beside the description we can find the notice board which says that Photography and Filming video are allowed by relaxation of rules. U can find the same notice at Veerabhadra Temple.

The Veerabadhra Temple is abt less than 1 km away from Nandi statue. We got coconuts in the front of temple for archana(20/-). There itself we left our footwear and entered the Prangana. There is a nice garden in front of temple. Many monkeys were roaming freely doing KothiChestalu, nice sight!

The temple is made from hill which is previously called 'Tabelu Konda'. As I remember the temple has Three Prakaras or the levels. On the outer level, we can find Mantapas built to accommodate pilgrims at that time. Its a nice experience walking arnd the main Temple. A visual feast!

Mysore Trip

Hi all... It was a Friday night we decided to go to a trip to Mysore that week end...so went to a travel agent to book the tickets for 4 it costs you 275+60(for entrance tickets and some service charges).they picked up near to our house at 6:30 and they have several other pickup points through out Bangalore(so…it took 1 and half hour more to go out of banaglore to mysore road)...

There was a stop for break fast at 9:00 and then we reached srirangapatnam(18 km from Mysore) at around 12:00 there we saw tippusultans palace (called rang mahal ruined now it was ruined by britisher’s in search of gold and )...and then we saw the place where tippu died. A siva temple which was 800 years old....and then come the ranganatha temple which is 1200 years old the temple really good (as you see beauty of the south Indian temples like big temple area and large gopuram) here we can see vishnu sleeping on adisesha called as ranganatha. This temple is in the banks of river cauvery.and the swamy is called adi ranga. There are three rangas adi ranga, madhya ranga and sri ranga(in srirangam near trichy, tamilnadu) all the three situated in the banks of cauvery.

We headed towards Mysore where we went to st.philomenas church the height of the church was 165 feet....went to cauvery stall (not so worthy you may find same kind of stalls in Bangalore itself may be if you are not in Karnataka you may think of some good stuff like sarees and sandal wood)then had lunch which it ill cost you around 40-50 per person....then we headed to the real beauty the Mysore palace the work done was really good what i suggest you is to get a personal guide of get those audio tapes there to listen in order to really know its importance and it is better to visit the palace on a holiday night in order to see the real beauty of the palace with the lightings....

Then it was chamudeswari temple.Chamudi devi who killed mahishasura(Mysore name came after him). The temple is really good and even the Siva temple was 2000 yrs old (swayam bhu linga as told by the priest there)

We went to the beautiful brindavan gardens which are 18 KM from Mysore there the boating was a good experience then the musical fountain was good(may be we would have seen the same kind in many places now)..the attraction was the krishnarajasagara dam on river Cauvery constructed by sir.visvesvarayya. this dam is manly constructed for irrigation purpose....then at night the beauty of the brindavan garden was really good...

We returned Bangalore at 9:00P.M and took 3 hrs to reach Bangalore back....overall it was a really nice experience.

Holidays.

After nearly half year, I got chance to visit my home. Many holidays I had. But this time its different. Different becoz I am no longer a student, but an employee. It makes me proud that I am alredy living my life. Unlike all other times, this time I go home with no burden(no books for study, though I carried novels), fully relieved, satisfied. I worked. I earned. Now I am taking leave. I alredy bought a new mobile for my bro.. am going to buy stuff for my other bro when I go home.. and will buy saree for mom and something for dad. Too good. I left Bangy on Christmas eve. Long train journeys are not new to me. So though I was alone, I did not get bored. I was reading Eragon- first book. Also had second book with me. I knew, even if all my other holiday plans are doomed, I am saved. Train reached vizag. My two brothers, my cousin were at station. Said byes to my journey mate Arya and left for the room my brothers are stayin at. I found it pleasantly surprising that the bus fares are very reasonable and importantly reasonably less compared to Bangalore. I am sure I mentioned the same more than five times to my thammudu. I hate conductors' attitude in BMTC buses where they take three rupees for nothing. They dont give ticket for that and he gives u a gr8 look that hez saving your money! I got a saree for my mom at CMR. It took nearly half an hour. Was asking my mom which color she wanted, whichever color I say, she says she alredy has it. I asked my akka (my colleague, I fondly call her akka, she granted her help for this herculean task at my repeated requests) to tag along. So atlast we found a saree and then got a cottons shirt for my dad. My brother was happy with that mobile. Well.. not really, he wanted slide piece. When I went home.. I knew.. Everyone wanted a gift. I told this and that. And well.. everything was great. I relaxed. I know I never relaxed that much. Not in any holidays. I never went outside. I was reading novel. Eating all foods. Sweets. Thinking of new years Eve. How will I spend it? I knew I have to escape my house. Lucky. I managed tickets for a dance show through my uncle. I left for vizag on 31st evening. Reached my bros room, had dinner, went to the programme. I could see my brother dancing, shouting. Ths excitement wasnt new to me. We had college fests. But they never had. not the kind of ones we had at kgp. But this show.. it is one of that kind. Gurajada audi was full of crowd. Dancing.. whistling.. clapping. I was part of it. The next morng I am bac to home. Next day I went for DL test. Went smooth. Something useful done in holidays. Last day.. said byes.. did one thing I always wanted to.. got my parents into room.. valla kallaki namaskarincha.. then got onto bike. on the way to station, got a call. I left mobile charger at house. ooops! Managed to arrive minutes before train came.d In vizag, akka joine me. was eating all along the journey. She got lots of eatables with her, I tooo..

Hold me tight.

I am feeling defeated.
I am feeling down.
Come on baby,
Come and Hold me tight,
Hold me still.
So that I can feel your breath,
so that I can feel your heart beat.
Stay like that,
even for a moment.
